My Approach

As a counselor, I believe in meeting you where you are and creating a safe, supportive space where we can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences together. My goal is to provide a warm and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable looking inward, gaining new perspectives, and developing a deeper understanding of how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence your overall well-being.

I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approaches and techniques to help you recognize patterns in your thinking and behavior and explore meaningful ways to create change. I also utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you become more present, identify what truly matters to you, develop greater acceptance of difficult emotions and experiences, and take meaningful steps toward the life you want to live.

Above all, I prioritize genuinely understanding you and your unique experiences. Whether you are navigating depression, anxiety, loneliness, life transitions, or simply feeling uncertain about your direction, counseling can provide a space to reflect, gain insight, and consider new perspectives. Through collaboration, we can identify challenges, establish meaningful goals, build on your strengths, and work toward positive and lasting change.

I am under the direct clinical supervision of Shawna Cook, LMHC

Note: Counseling Services Provided by Interns

Heartland Counseling Services is proud to support the next generation of mental health professionals. Counseling sessions with our clinical interns are offered free of charge as part of their supervised training experience.

Because interns are at a specific stage in their clinical development, all referrals are screened by licensed supervisors to ensure that each client’s therapeutic needs match the intern’s current competencies and areas of training. If at any point a client’s needs fall outside an intern’s scope, a licensed clinician will be recommended to ensure the highest quality of care.

Our goal is to provide accessible services while maintaining ethical, competent, and client-centered care.
